Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind president Maulana Mahmood Asad Madani has expressed concern over reports alleging that military equipment and artillery shells were supplied from India to Israel between October 2023 and November 2025. Calling for greater transparency, he urged the Union government to clarify its position and review its military cooperation with Israel.
In a statement, Madani referred to a recent report by Amnesty International and said the government should clearly explain its stand on the issue. He argued that the lack of clarity on such a sensitive international matter could affect India’s moral standing and global reputation.
Calls for Immediate Halt to Alleged Military Supplies
Madani said that if weapons are being supplied despite concerns that they could be used in violations of international law, it would be inconsistent with humanitarian principles.
He also referred to the 2024 advisory of the International Court of Justice (ICJ), which called on states to prevent actions that could contribute to violations of international law in the context of the Gaza conflict.
According to Madani, India has historically supported the Palestinian cause, and any supply of military equipment to Israel would mark a departure from that longstanding policy.
He urged the government to immediately stop the alleged supply of arms and military equipment by both government and private entities, disclose relevant information to the public, and end military cooperation with Israel.
References Geneva Conventions
The Jamiat chief said India should continue to uphold its commitment to human rights and international law.
He referred to the 1949 Geneva Conventions and the 1948 Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide, saying countries have a responsibility to ensure that weapons are not supplied where there is a risk they could be used to commit war crimes or other serious violations of international humanitarian law.
Comments on Gaza Conflict
Madani also spoke about the humanitarian situation in Gaza, describing it as devastating and expressing concern over the large number of casualties, widespread destruction and displacement of civilians.
The war on Gaza began after the October 7, 2023, attack by Hamas on Israel, following which Israel launched a large-scale military campaign in the territory. Thousands of people have been killed and injured, according to health authorities in Gaza, while humanitarian agencies have repeatedly warned of severe shortages of food, clean water and medical supplies.
The Government of India has not publicly confirmed the allegations referred to by Madani regarding arms supplies to Israel.
