A 12-year-old Dalit girl was allegedly gang raped by five juvenile boys in Uttar Pradesh’s Shahjahanpur district, police said. All five accused have been detained, and the case is being investigated.
According to police, the incident took place in a village where both the victim and the accused reside. Officials said the five boys, aged between 15 and 17 years, were known to the victim.
The victim’s mother alleged in her complaint that the incident occurred on Friday when the boys were playing near agricultural fields. The girl reportedly joined them for some time before they allegedly lured her to a nearby sugarcane field.
The complaint states that the five juveniles allegedly sexually assaulted the girl inside the field.
According to the police, the accused fled the spot after the owner of a neighbouring field arrived in the area.
The girl later returned home in a distressed condition and informed her mother about the incident. Based on the complaint, an FIR was registered against the five juveniles.
The Station House Officer (SHO) of the concerned police station said all five accused have been apprehended and will be produced before the Juvenile Justice Board for further legal proceedings.
Police said the investigation is underway.
