Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal on Wednesday criticised Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya over his remarks on madrasa education, calling them communal and questioning whether “chanda chors” were patriotic.
Sibal’s remarks came a day after Maurya claimed that people educated in madrasas “develop a terrorist-like mindset” and neither chant “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” nor sing “Vande Mataram”.
In a post on X, the Independent Rajya Sabha MP described Maurya’s comments as a reflection of a “warped mindset.”
‘Are Chanda Chors Patriotic?’ Sibal Asks
Reacting to the Deputy Chief Minister’s statement, Sibal wrote, “Communal statement. A warped mindset. Are ‘Chanda Chors’ patriotic? This country deserves better!”
His remarks appeared to target the BJP while referring to allegations surrounding the alleged theft of donation money at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya.
Opposition Continues to Target BJP
Sibal’s comments come as opposition parties continue to criticise the BJP over the alleged theft of donations at the Ram Temple, using the issue to question the ruling party’s claims on nationalism and governance.
Maurya’s remarks on madrasa education have also drawn criticism from opposition leaders, who have accused the BJP of making divisive statements targeting the Muslim community.
