Aban Ahmed, the youngest son of slain gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed, died in a road accident in Uttar Pradesh’s Jhansi on Thursday while travelling to meet his elder brother, Ali Ahmed, who is lodged in the district jail.
Another person travelling in the vehicle, identified as Sonu, also died in the accident, while three others sustained injuries and were admitted to a medical college for treatment.
Car Crashes Into Highway Divider
According to police, Aban was travelling from Prayagraj to Jhansi in a white Hyundai Creta with four others when the driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle. The SUV crashed into a highway divider, leaving its front portion badly damaged.
Senior Superintendent of Police BBGTS Murthy said police received information about the accident at around 10.30 am.
“Two people died in the accident, while three others sustained injuries. The injured are undergoing treatment at the medical college,” Murthy told reporters.
Police have sent the bodies for post-mortem examination and are investigating the cause of the accident.
Was Going to Meet Brother in Jail
According to preliminary information, Aban was travelling to Jhansi to meet his brother Ali Ahmed, who is currently lodged in Jhansi district jail after being shifted there from Naini Central Jail in October 2025.
Ali has been in custody in connection with an extortion case and is also an accused in the 2023 Umesh Pal murder case.
Atiq Ahmed’s Family
Atiq Ahmed had five sons. His eldest son, Umar Ahmed, is lodged in Lucknow jail, while Ali Ahmed remains in Jhansi jail. His third son, Asad Ahmed, was killed in a police encounter in Jhansi in April 2023. His fourth son, Ahzam Ahmed, is out on bail, and Aban, the youngest, died in Thursday’s road accident.
Background
Former MP Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf Ahmed were shot dead on April 15, 2023, by three men posing as journalists while they were being escorted by police for a medical examination in Prayagraj. The shooting took place live before television cameras.
Atiq Ahmed had been convicted in several criminal cases, including murder, kidnapping and extortion, and was serving a life sentence before his death.
