A case of alleged violence between student groups has been reported at the English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU) in Hyderabad, with students linked to the EFLU Students’ Union and NSUI accusing members associated with ABVP of attacking them with iron rods, bamboo sticks, belts and beer bottles. Police have registered FIRs in connection with the incident.
The incident reportedly took place during the night of August 13 and 14.
Students Allege Attack Outside Hostel
According to a complaint cited by Journo Mirror, a protest began outside the Mahalaka Bai Chanda Women’s Hostel around 10:30 pm on August 13. The Students’ Union alleged that its vice-president was verbally and physically harassed during the protest.
The union also alleged that caste-based abusive remarks were directed at some students.
According to FIR No. 414/2026, complainant Nikhil Kumar alleged that some students associated with ABVP abused and assaulted protesters. The students later approached the police and submitted a written complaint.
Four Students Reportedly Injured
The complaint alleges that around 4 am, a group carrying iron rods, bamboo sticks, beer bottles and belts entered the Bashir Men’s Hostel.
The group allegedly surrounded and assaulted students and damaged their mobile phones and personal belongings.
The complaint alleges that Harsh Tamrakar was attacked on the head and neck with a beer bottle, while Sohil Yadav was allegedly hit with an iron rod. Prashant Singh was allegedly beaten with bamboo sticks and was reportedly unconscious when the complaint was filed.
Four injured students were taken to hospital, where medico-legal cases were registered.
The Students’ Union further alleged that some injured students were dragged from a bathroom into the hostel corridors while covered in blood. It also claimed that the alleged attackers continued searching hostel rooms for NSUI-linked students even after some injured students had been taken to hospital.

The union alleged that hostel rooms, personal belongings and a water cooler were also damaged.
Cross FIR Filed After Counter Complaint
Police registered FIR No. 414 against four named accused and others under various provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
A separate cross-FIR, numbered 415/2026, was also registered following a complaint by student Rishabh Kumar.
Kumar alleged that between 3 am and 4 am, more than 20 students gathered outside his hostel room and assaulted him with belts and an iron rod. He claimed that he lost consciousness during the alleged attack.
Several students have been named in the second case as well.
Students Question University Administration
The EFLU Students’ Union has accused the university administration and police of failing to control the situation in time. It alleged that despite the violence, some of the accused continued moving around the campus.
The union has also questioned the role of the university’s Deputy Proctor and the Bashir Hostel warden, demanding that responsibility be fixed for the alleged lapses.
The union further alleged that when its vice-president and a councillor approached the police with an initial complaint, the Deputy Proctor allegedly asked police officials not to register an FIR.
However, police have now registered separate cases based on complaints from both sides.
Police Investigation Underway
The allegations made by the two student groups remain part of an ongoing investigation. Police are examining the complaints, injuries and other evidence to establish what happened during the overnight clashes.
The competing FIRs mean that the allegations of assault, vandalism and the university administration’s alleged response will have to be examined separately before responsibility can be established.
