Members of some Hindutva groups allegedly entered a corporate office in Madhapur, Hyderabad, over claims that a female employee was being pressured to convert to Islam in return for a promotion.
The exact date of the incident is not clear. However, a video of the incident was posted on the Narayanpet Bajrang Dal’s Instagram page on August 24.
Bajrang Dal Alleges Religious Pressure at Office
According to the caption accompanying the video, Hindu women employees at the ONQ India office in Madhapur were allegedly being pressured by colleagues to convert to Islam and recite the Kalma, the Islamic declaration of faith.
The post named an employee identified as Firoz from the Human Resources department and team leader Abdul as the people allegedly involved in the conversion attempts.
The caption claimed that leaders and activists of the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP), Bajrang Dal and Hindu Vahini brought the allegations to the company’s attention.
“Leaders and activists of the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP), Bajrang Dal, and Hindu Vahini reportedly brought the matter to the company’s attention. Subsequently, the company is said to have taken action against the two individuals,” the post said.
It added, “No employee should face religious pressure, coercion, or harassment in the workplace. Companies should take immediate and impartial action in response to such allegations.”
Group Stages Protest Outside Office
The video shows a group confronting company staff and staging a dharna at what appears to be the office parking area.
The video and accompanying post, however, do not establish independently whether the alleged pressure to convert actually took place.
Police Say No Complaint From Alleged Victim
Speaking to Siasat.com, Madhapur Station House Officer K V Subba Rao said the female employee who was allegedly pressured to convert has not filed any complaint with the police.
The office administration, however, has filed a complaint against the people who allegedly entered the workplace without permission.
An inquiry into the incident is currently underway.
