A 16-year-old Class 11 student from Uttar Pradesh’s Mainpuri district was allegedly gang-raped inside a sleeper bus after she sought help from the driver and conductor during heavy rain, police said.
The incident reportedly took place on August 4, when the teenager was travelling from Mainpuri to Noida to meet her cousin. According to police sources, she had left home following an argument with her mother and boarded a bus bound for Noida Sector 63.
Teenager Allegedly Assaulted Inside Bus
Amid heavy rain and poor visibility, the girl reportedly got off the bus by mistake at Pari Chowk in Greater Noida. She later stopped an empty sleeper bus and asked the driver and conductor for help.
The two men allegedly told her that the bus was heading towards Noida Sector 63 and allowed her to board.
According to her statement to police, the conductor allegedly began making inappropriate advances after the bus started moving. The driver and conductor then allegedly sexually assaulted her inside the bus and threatened her when she resisted.
The bus reportedly continued towards Delhi before the teenager was allegedly abandoned near the Kashmere Gate area late that night.
The survivor then approached Kashmere Gate police and reported the incident. Police arranged her medical examination in the presence of a woman police officer and registered an FIR under relevant provisions concerning gang rape, kidnapping and assault.
Driver, Conductor Arrested
Delhi Police traced the bus with the help of CCTV footage and arrested the two accused from a parking facility in Timarpur.
The accused have been identified as driver Kuldeep and conductor Sandeep. Police seized the bus and sent it for forensic examination. Evidence collected during the investigation has also been sent for further analysis.
According to police sources, the bus had returned empty after being taken to a workshop in Surajpur for repairs. The driver and conductor were reportedly travelling towards a parking facility in Timarpur when they encountered the teenager at Pari Chowk.
Police have examined CCTV footage along the route as part of the investigation.
A police officer said the route largely passes through highways and the Ring Road, where frequent barricading could create traffic congestion. However, police personnel are deployed near the Delhi-Noida border.
“The police informed the girl’s family about the incident the same night and called them to Delhi. Woman police personnel remained with her and provided assistance until her family arrived,” the officer said.
The teenager was later handed over to her family after necessary formalities.
Investigation Underway
Police sources said a potency test was conducted on the accused following the allegations. The bus has also undergone forensic examination, with investigators examining evidence that could help establish what happened inside the vehicle.
The survivor’s identity has not been disclosed in accordance with laws protecting minors involved in sexual assault cases.
