A trader identified as Rizwan was allegedly brutally assaulted and flogged with belts in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, after a group of men accused him of transporting beef.
Rizwan sustained critical injuries in the alleged mob attack. He said he had told the men that he was carrying buffalo meat, but they continued to assault him.
Rizwan Says Mob Stopped His Vehicle
Speaking about the incident, Rizwan said he was stopped by around 10 to 12 men while he was travelling with the meat.
“I was stopped by 10 to 12 men. I thought they were collecting donations. They took away the keys of my vehicle and abused me and asked me what I was carrying. I said it was meat. Then they started beating me,” Rizwan said.
He alleged that the attackers used belts, sticks and bricks and also kicked and punched him.
“They used belts, sticks, bricks, kicks and punches. They were abusing me,” he said.
Rizwan also alleged that the assault continued despite his clarification that he was transporting buffalo meat.
Meat Sent for Examination
Lucknow Police said the incident took place in the Itaunja police station area, where a young man who runs a biryani cart was allegedly assaulted over accusations of carrying prohibited meat.
“In the Itaunja police station area, a young man who sets up a biryani cart was beaten by some people on allegations of carrying prohibited meat. A case has been registered at Itaunja police station regarding the assault. The meat has been seized and sent for examination,” Lucknow Police said.

Police said the situation at the spot was peaceful and that legal proceedings were underway.
