The Students Islamic Organisation (SIO) Chhattisgarh has condemned an alleged incident in which a religiously derogatory slogan targeting the burqa was reportedly raised during a school programme in Raipur.
A video circulating on social media purportedly shows the slogan, “Durga ban, Kali ban, kabhi na Burkhewali ban” being raised from a school stage.
The identity of the school, the programme and the full context of the video have not been independently established.
SIO Calls for Inquiry
Reacting to the video, SIO Chhattisgarh said the alleged use of such a slogan at a school programme was unacceptable and raised questions about the responsibility of the institution.
“When a teacher uses a school platform to demean a particular religious identity, it is not merely an individual’s irresponsible conduct. It raises serious questions about the institution that provided the platform and permitted such messaging before students,” the organisation said.
SIO said teachers should promote constitutional values, equality, dignity and respect rather than religious prejudice.
“The school authorities must accept institutional responsibility, publicly condemn the incident, and issue an unconditional apology to the students, parents and community affected,” it said.
SIO Demands Action
The organisation called for a transparent inquiry into the incident and strict action against those found responsible.
“We demand a transparent inquiry and strict action against those responsible,” SIO Chhattisgarh said.
“A school must educate minds, not poison them with religious prejudice,” it added.
The video has prompted different reactions on social media. However, details about the school and the circumstances in which the video was recorded remain unclear.
No official response from the school management or the concerned education department has been reported so far. Further details are expected if authorities or the school issue a statement on the incident.
