A Sunday Christian prayer gathering at the Hyatt Centric hotel in Janakpuri, Delhi, was disrupted on September 20 after a group alleged that mass religious conversions of Hindus were taking place at the venue.
According to The Siasat Daily, members of the group entered the gathering and accused the organisers of converting Hindus to Christianity.
A video circulated on social media shows members of the group making the allegations inside the hotel.
“Yeh yaha pe dharam parivarthan chal raha hai. Hyatt Centric Hotel mein Janakpuri mein Issahion ka dharam parivarthan chal raha hai,” one person is heard saying.
Group Alleges Assault
The person recording the incident also claimed that children attending the gathering were Hindu and alleged that people who opposed the gathering were assaulted.
“Yaha sau ke sau per cent Hindu hai bacche aur yeh yaha par dharam parivarchan kar rahe hai. Hamne jab inko oppose kiya toh yeh aise badtameezi kar rahe hain,” he said.
He further alleged that some people were beaten when they objected to the gathering.
In another video, a member of the group displayed forms that he claimed were being distributed to people attending the meeting. He alleged that around 500 Hindus were being offered money to convert to Christianity.
“Inko form bharaye jaa rahe hai inko. Paison ki lalach deke inko conversion karaya ja raha hai. Sab conversion karaya ja raha hai yaha par,” he said.
Police Says No Conversion Took Place
West Delhi Deputy Commissioner Vichitra Veer rejected the allegations, saying the gathering was a regular Sunday prayer meeting organised by members of the local Christian community.
“Members of the local Christian community had gathered at the venue for their regular Sunday prayer. Upon enquiry, no matter related to religious conversion was found,” the DCP said in a statement on X.
The officer also rejected the claim that around 500 people were being converted.
“The claim regarding conversion of around 500 persons is not true; please don’t believe in rumours,” the statement said.
Forms Were Prayer and Church Activity Forms
According to The Siasat Daily, the forms shown in the videos were prayer request and application forms associated with the Global Royal Priesthood Church.
The prayer request form sought details from attendees along with the prayer they wanted addressed to the priest. Another form titled “Welcome to Priesthood Generation” asked attendees about positions they were interested in within the group.
The Global Royal Priesthood Church regularly holds Sunday prayer meetings at the Hyatt Centric hotel. A senior pastor of the church had also shared an invitation on Instagram for the September 20 gathering, describing it as an “Atonement Sunday Service.”
Police said their enquiry found no evidence of religious conversion at the gathering.
