A Dalit man in Uttar Pradesh’s Banda district has accused two men of abusing him with casteist slurs, beating him with sticks and threatening to kill him following a dispute that allegedly began when his hand touched another man’s hand while taking paan.
The alleged incident took place in Masuri village under the Girwan police station area on September 24. The complainant, Ram Milan, has accused Santosh Yadav and his son Naval Kishore alias Nunnu of assaulting him and allegedly taking around ₹35,000 from him.
Ram Milan submitted an application to the district magistrate on Friday, seeking action against the two men.
Dispute Started Over Paan
According to his complaint, Ram Milan was passing near a government school at around 4 pm on September 24 when he stopped to buy paan from Santosh Yadav.
Ram Milan alleged that his hand accidentally touched Yadav’s hand while he was taking the paan. He claimed that Yadav became angry and began abusing him using casteist remarks.
The complaint states that Yadav then allegedly picked up a stick and started beating him.
Ram Milan further alleged that Yadav’s son, Naval Kishore alias Nunnu, arrived during the incident and also assaulted him. He claimed that the two men threatened to kill him if he complained about the incident.
₹35,000 Allegedly Taken During Assault
Ram Milan said he works as a labour contractor and takes workers to brick kilns. He claimed that he was carrying around ₹35,000 at the time of the incident to pay the workers.
He alleged that Santosh Yadav and his son took the money from his pocket while beating him.
The allegations are part of Ram Milan’s complaint to the district administration and have not been independently verified.
Victim Seeks Police Action
Ram Milan said that after the alleged assault, he used his brother in law’s mobile phone to call the emergency number 112 and inform the police.
He alleged that police reached the spot but did not properly hear his complaint. He also claimed that he was not sent for a medical examination.
In his application to the district magistrate, Ram Milan has requested a medical examination, registration of a case against the accused and protection for his safety.
The district administration and police are yet to publicly respond to the allegations.
