AIMIM chief and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi on Tuesday alleged that pre-printed and bulk Form-7 applications were being used to target Muslim voters for deletion from electoral rolls during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in Telangana.
Speaking to reporters in Hyderabad, Owaisi said pre-printed Form-7 applications had surfaced in the Goshamahal Assembly constituency and questioned their source. He alleged that applications were being filed against Muslim voters in Booth Nos. 28, 30 and 127.
“Where did these pre-printed Form-7 forms come from?” Owaisi asked, questioning why Muslim voters were allegedly being targeted in the constituency.
Owaisi Questions 122 Form-7 Applications
The AIMIM chief also questioned how a single person could submit 122 Form-7 applications, which are used to request deletion of a name from the electoral roll.
“Who is that person? How did he submit 122 applications?” Owaisi asked, demanding details about the applications and the person who submitted them.
He called for criminal cases against those who had allegedly submitted Form-7 applications in bulk.
“We do not understand what is happening in Telangana,” Owaisi said.
Owaisi said he could not comment on developments in West Bengal but claimed that the situation in Hyderabad was something they were witnessing directly.
Owaisi Alleges BJP Leaders Filed Applications
Owaisi further alleged that BJP leaders themselves were submitting Form-7 applications seeking the deletion of Muslim voters’ names.
He demanded that criminal cases be registered against those involved and called on the Chief Election Commissioner to take action against BJP leaders if the Election Commission was independent.
Owaisi also questioned the need for what he described as “drama” around the electoral roll revision and asked why ordinary citizens were being put through difficulties during the process.
Questions CEC Selection Process
The AIMIM chief also criticised the current process of selecting the Chief Election Commissioner and called for a return to the earlier system.
He demanded that the CEC selection process be conducted in the presence of the Prime Minister, the Leader of the Opposition and the Chief Justice of India.
Owaisi also raised questions about discrepancies in the SIR process. He cited the case of a person who, according to him, was eligible to vote in 2002 but whose name is now missing from the electoral roll.
