Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) leader Mayawati has criticized the Samajwadi Party (SP) for choosing Hindu candidates in Muslim-majority areas and Muslim candidates in Hindu-majority areas.

Speaking at election rallies, Mayawati said, “The BSP, unlike the SP, has given proper representation to members of all communities in ticket allocation.”

Mayawati alleged that “atrocities against minorities are being committed under the guise of Hindutva.” She asked Muslim voters not to split their votes, warning that if they vote for the Congress, the BJP will benefit.

“The condition of Muslims and other minorities is also not good. In the past few years, it is because of the BJP-RSS government that their development has been affected. Atrocities are being committed in the guise of Hindutva,” she alleged.

The BSP chief also attacked the Congress, saying the party’s “wrong policies and working style” had caused it to lose recent elections. She claimed the BJP and its allies will not return to power at the Centre if the elections are held freely and fairly.

Mayawati promised that if the BSP forms the government, it will “stop the exploitation of Muslims in the name of Hindutva.” She appealed to the poor, unemployed and others not to fall for “hollow promises” and to vote for the BSP, which she said is their “well-wisher” and will run the government for the “welfare and happiness of all.”
