Madhya Pradesh BJP

During the third phase of the Lok Sabha polls in Bhopal, a ruling BJP leader, Vinay Mehar, faced legal action for allegedly enabling his minor son to cast a vote and sharing the act on Facebook.

Piyush Babele, media advisor to ex-state Congress chief Kamal Nath, brought attention to the incident on social media platform ‘X’, accusing Mehar of allowing his minor son to vote and sharing the video online.

“BJP’s district panchayat member Vinay Mehar got his minor son to cast his vote. Made a video, posted it on Facebook, Will any action be taken? The collector said that an inquiry is being conducted and if found guilty, strict action will be taken against the presiding officer and the concerned person,” Babele said in a post.

An FIR was lodged against Mehar at the local police station following verification of the video’s authenticity.

The constituency where the incident occurred, Berasia-SC, is a segment of the Bhopal Lok Sabha seat, currently held by BJP’s Vishnu Khatri. The BJP stronghold saw lower voter turnout compared to previous elections.

In the Lok Sabha elections, the constituency witnessed a contest between ex-mayor and BJP candidate Alok Sharma, a loyalist of Shivraj Singh Chouhan, and Congress’s Arun Srivastava.
