Earlier last week, the Students Islamic Organization of India (SIO) issued a press release demanding transparency and integrity in the NEET examination process.
The SIO raised concerns about the upcoming NEET (UG) 2024 exam, citing numerous discrepancies and allegations of unfair practices, including a potential paper leak. The organisation pointed out a significant increase in perfect scores, and the concentration of top scorers at a single center in Haryana, suggesting irregularities.
In response, the SIO called for an immediate and thorough investigation, an independent audit, and complete transparency to restore trust and integrity in the NEET (UG) 2024. When the authorities failed to respond, the SIO took the matter to the Supreme Court of India by filing a Public Interest Litigation (PIL).
They demanded a re-examination of NEET and a comprehensive Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe into the examination process conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA).
During a press conference held at the Press Club of India on Monday, Dr. Roshan Mohiddin, the National Secretary of SIO, raised concerns about the NTA’s conduct. He highlighted the sudden reopening of registration on April 9th, despite an earlier 15-day extension, as a significant discrepancy.
Recent incidents of paper leaks in Bihar and malpractices in Gujarat and Noida, which resulted in several arrests, have further eroded trust in the examination’s integrity.
Abdullah Faiz, another National Secretary of SIO, expressed concerns about the unusually high number of perfect scores, with eight out of the top 67 students coming from a single center in Haryana.
“This disproportionate concentration of top scorers raises questions about the fairness and transparency of the examination process,” said Abdullah.
Faiz also emphasized the impact on students’ mental health, highlighting the tragic suicide of a girl following the announcement of the results. He reiterated SIO’s support for affected students and their families, seeking justice and resolution to these critical issues.
The SIO’s PIL, filed by leaders Abdullah Faiz and Dr. Roshan Mohiuddin, aims to restore integrity and fairness to the NEET examination process, prioritizing student welfare.
In an earlier plea of SIO, the Supreme Court of India ordered the Center and CBSE in 2017 to add Urdu as a language medium in NEET 2018–19. SIO is now once more supporting the students in their fight for justice.
