Several complaints have been lodged with President Droupadi Murmu urging the immediate disqualification of All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi. This follows Owaisi’s chanting of the slogan ‘Jai Palestine’ during his swearing-in as a Lok Sabha MP on Tuesday.

One of the complaints, filed by Supreme Court lawyer Alakh Alok Srivastava, asserts that Owaisi’s public proclamation of ‘Jai Palestine’, especially within the Indian Parliament. The complaint cited Article 102 (d) of the Constitution of India, which outlines grounds for disqualification.

“This is not the first time when Mr Owaisi has displayed his unequivocal loyalty, support and allegiance to the said foreign country ‘Palestine’. Rather, it is a matter of record that Mr. Owaisi has been exhibiting his consistent support, allegiance and adherence to the said foreign state for the last many years,” the complaint read.

Owaisi’s declaration of ‘Jai Palestine’ in the Lok Sabha sparked controversy during his oath-taking ceremony for the 18th Lok Sabha. His statement, which also included other slogans like ‘Jai Bhim’, ‘Jai Meem’, and ‘Takbeer Allahu Akbar’, has ignited debates.
