A temple on the outskirts of Jammu was vandalised, with the perpetrator arrested by police, authorities reported on Sunday. The incident, which occurred late Saturday night, involved the desecration of idols and arson at the Narain Khoo area temple.

Local resident Arjun Sharma confessed to his involvement in the vandalism, citing frustration over alleged black magic practices by some community members at the temple. Police, including forensic teams and sniffer dogs, responded to the scene after receiving complaints and reviewing CCTV footage.

Jammu (Rural) Superintendent of Police Brijesh Sharma praised the arrest, saying that it prevented potential unrest over the incident.

“The timely arrest of the culprit averted a certain flare up in the situation. We are thankful to the people for their positive role and maintaining calm to allow police to conduct its investigation,” the SP said.

This incident marks the second recent case of vandalism at a place of worship in the Jammu region, following an earlier incident in the Reasi district. Authorities are actively investigating both incidents to ensure community peace and safety.

Senior BJP leader Devender Singh Rana commended the police and civil administration for their response and handling of the situation.
