A primary school teacher in Kuladia locality, Bareilly district, was suspended on Monday for allegedly beating a class four student from the Dalit community. The incident occurred after the student refused to pluck fruits for the teacher inside the school premises.

The accused teacher, Rani Gangwar, allegedly locked the nine-year-old student inside a classroom and physically assaulted him. Following the incident, the Basic Education Officer in Bareilly suspended Gangwar.

A First Information Report (FIR) has been registered against Gangwar under section 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with sections of the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

The victim’s mother lodged a complaint with the local police, alleging that influential individuals were pressuring the family to settle the matter. Deputy Superintendent of Police (Nawabganj) Harsh Modi confirmed that a medical examination had been conducted, which verified the injuries sustained by the child.

“Necessary action is being initiated. The matter is also registered under the SC/ST Act. We will initiate action according to the law,” stated DSP Harsh Modi.
