Authorities Demolish Church in Uttar Pradesh’s Mirzapur Amid Illegal Conversion Allegations

In Uttar Pradesh’s Mirzapur, authorities demolished a church amid suspected illegal conversion activities. This action is part of a larger effort to stop “illegal conversion”. 

The Church was allegedly constructed illegally by Vinod Kumar and Ramakant of Ahirura police station. On receiving complaints from the residents about the church and its alleged illegal conversion. After investigation, the demolition was carried out with significant Police officers on site.  

The sub-district magistrate’s court sent notices to Vinod Kumar and Ramakant to appear in court. However, when neither of them showed up, the Police and administrative team carried out the demolition. 

Police Superintendent Abhinandan said, “The church was illegally constructed on forest department land. We received several complaints continuously about conversions here, in the church. Following complaints, we took action. Any similar complaints in the future will be investigated and action will be taken.” 

These actions have sparked controversy and public outcry. A resident who wished anonymity said, “After Muslims, it looks like the targets are Christians.”

“The situation is becoming critical for minorities in India, told another local resident. 

Condemning these actions, Many minority organizations and Human rights groups have called for an in-depth investigation into the matter and for safeguarding religious freedom for all.
