J&K: First Member of Banned Jamaat-e-Islami Files Nomination as Independent Candidate from Pulwama

Dr talat majeed Jamaat

Dr. Talat Majeed, a former member of the now-banned Jamaat-e-Islami Jammu and Kashmir (JeI), has officially entered the political fray as an independent candidate for the Pulwama Assembly constituency in the forthcoming Jammu and Kashmir elections. This marks a shift in the political dynamics of South Kashmir, where JeI has historically wielded substantial influence.

Addressing his supporters after filing his nomination, Dr. Majeed said, “We have to look at the situation from a geopolitical scenario perspective.”

Dr. Majeed explained that his decision to enter mainstream politics stemmed from his understanding of the current geopolitical developments and the need for political engagement to address the region’s challenges effectively.

“I understood the developments happening in the geopolitical scenarios, then I thought we should get into the mainstream,” he said.

This move is seen as a pivotal moment in South Kashmir’s politics, with Dr. Majeed’s candidacy likely to attract considerable attention given his background and the historical significance of JeI in the region.
