Communal tension flared in Bhagalpur, Bihar during an idol immersion ceremony when a Hindutva mob equipped with weapons targeted an Imambara on November 2. The mob stopped by the street and a man climbed up on the wall to wave a saffron flag while some other Hindu men were found raising Israeli flags near the holy edifice.
The mob also played highly offensive derogatory songs full of abusive words, and demeaning women, while some people were spotted fluttering swords in the wind to threaten the Muslim community and endanger the peace and harmony of the area.
Social Media Backlash
Abusive songs played on high-pitched DJs were muted in viral videos due to filthy wordings and netizens slammed such terrible attempts of the mob that purposely aimed to incite violence and communal riots.
“You must have seen Nafrati Chintu waving Israeli flags and insulting a mosque with vulgar dance in the name of Shoba Yatra in Bhagalpur!” a social media user expressed his anger on the horrible showcase of hate and Islamophobia.
Some netizens also marked out the presence of police on site when the hateful incident took place.
“During an idol immersion, rioters raised a saffron flag on the gate of the Mosque at Imambara in presence of police, the same video was shared on Instagram, edited with obscene music” another user wrote on social portal.
Sensible citizens condemned the inhumane act of insulting a pious Muslim religious territory with eerie intentions of inflaming riots and damaging the lives and properties of the Muslim community.
After tons of criticisms and demands to take strict action, Bhagalpur police finally acknowledged the incident.
“Bhagalpur police has received a video via social media in which a man can be seen fluttering a flag on a religious place near Lalmatiya police station” said the department while informing that they have filed an FIR and will take action against the culprits.
