WhatsApp, X, Instagram, and Other Platforms Provide Free Access to JK Police for Tracking ‘Anti-National’ Elements: Officials

The Jammu and Kashmir Police have reportedly secured direct cooperation from major social media platforms, granting them access to track individuals and entities deemed involved in activities classified as “anti-national” on these platforms.

Sources within the police department have confirmed that they are actively monitoring the IP addresses of individuals engaged in such activities, marking a concerted effort to maintain law and order in the region.

This collaboration extends to a host of social media giants, including WhatsApp, X (formerly known as Twitter), Snapchat, Instagram, Telegram, and TikTok, among others. Such cooperation has given authorities the ability to access information pertaining to individuals exploiting these platforms to propagate “anti-national sentiment.”

The revelation of this partnership surfaced following an operation conducted by the Jammu and Kashmir Police’s Cyber Investigation Kashmir (CIK) wing, which led to the apprehension of an individual from Srinagar. The individual in question was found to be operating a fake Instagram account and posting content deemed as “anti-national” in the comment sections of various posts.

Moreover, the Jammu and Kashmir Police, in conjunction with other relevant agencies, have successfully infiltrated several Telegram and WhatsApp groups, closely monitoring the activities within. Insider sources have confirmed to Srinagar-based news agency Kashmir Dot Com that this collaborative effort has yielded a wealth of valuable intelligence.

Remarkably, even teenagers who are members of various Telegram groups are under surveillance, emphasizing the importance of parental vigilance in monitoring their children’s online activities. Authorities urge parents to take active measures to ensure that their wards do not inadvertently become involved in “anti-national activities.”

An official stated, “The Jammu and Kashmir Police’s dedication to monitoring and curbing social media misuse underscores their commitment to national security.”
