India has voted in favor of two United Nations General Assembly resolutions calling for Israel’s withdrawal from territories occupied since 1967 and supporting a just, lasting peace in West Asia.

The resolution titled “Peaceful settlement of the question of Palestine” was adopted on Tuesday with 157 nations in favor, eight against, and seven abstentions. It called for Israel to withdraw from Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem, and reiterated support for a two-state solution with Israel and Palestine coexisting peacefully within pre-1967 borders.

The resolution also demanded an end to Israeli settlement activities and legislative actions sustaining the occupation. It reaffirmed that Gaza is integral to the Palestinian State and rejected attempts to alter its demographic or territorial boundaries. The text further urged an immediate cessation of violence and provocative acts in the region.

India also supported a resolution demanding Israel’s withdrawal from the occupied Syrian Golan, in line with the 1967 borders. This resolution, adopted with 97 votes in favor and eight against, declared Israeli settlements and jurisdiction over the Golan Heights as illegal and void under international law.

By voting in favor, India reiterated its stance on supporting peace in West Asia and upholding international law. Science and Technology Minister Jitendra Singh earlier emphasized the significance of partnerships in the region, including collaborations in technology and innovation, reflecting India’s broader strategic interests.
