Afghan Cricket Star Rahmanullah Gurbaz Wins Hearts Off the Field with Quiet Charity for Needy

Afghanistan’s star batter Rahmanullah Gurbaz has won the hearts of many with his act of kindness during the ongoing World Cup 2023. A viral video on social media showcases Gurbaz silently distributing money to those in need on the streets of Ahmedabad, ensuring that they could celebrate Diwali with joy.

The footage reveals Gurbaz discreetly leaving money near sleeping individuals before departing in a car, illustrating his commitment to making a positive impact beyond the boundary.

Congress leader Shashi Tharoor lauded the cricketer’s gesture as “far greater than any century he might score.”

“Just amazing act of kindness by Afghan batsman Rahmatullah Gurbaz to pavement dwellers in Ahmedabad after his last match. Far greater than any century he might score — and may he score many! Long may his career thrive, along with his heart,” Tharoor said in a social media post on X.

On the cricketing front, Afghanistan may have fallen short of qualifying for the knockout stage in the World Cup, but their performance has undeniably left a lasting impression.

With four wins in nine games, Afghanistan’s journey included a memorable 69-run victory over defending champions England, a highlight that will be etched in the memories of cricket enthusiasts.

Known traditionally for their formidable bowling unit, Afghanistan surprised many with their commendable batting displays throughout the tournament. The team’s final league-stage match, unfortunately, ended in a five-wicket defeat against South Africa in Ahmedabad, concluding their World Cup campaign.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz, on a personal note, showcased his prowess with the bat, amassing 280 runs in nine appearances at an average of 31.11 and an impressive strike rate of 98.93. Another standout performer for Afghanistan was Ibrahim Zadran, who had a stellar campaign, accumulating 493 runs, including a century.

As Afghanistan bids farewell to the World Cup, their performance has earned them a spot in the Champions Trophy 2025, providing a promising outlook for future cricketing endeavours. The team’s newfound confidence and the display in the ICC event set the stage for exciting challenges ahead, as they strive to bring their A-game to future assignments.
