Abdul Salam, the district president of AIMIM in Bihar’s Gopalganj district, was fatally shot on Monday, February 12. Salam, who had previously contested unsuccessfully in the by-poll to the Gopalganj assembly seat, was attacked by four assailants while on his way to catch a train.

The assailants, riding two motorcycles, opened fire on Salam as he was riding pillion with a relative, leading to his demise. This incident marks the second killing of an AIMIM leader in Bihar within a short span, following the assassination of Arif Jamal, the party’s district president in Siwan, in December 2023.

The repeated instances of violence against AIMIM leaders in Bihar have sparked concerns over the deteriorating law and order situation in the state.

AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi has criticized Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, urging thorough investigations into the incidents and demanding justice for the victims.

“…former candidate of @aimim_national cum State Secretary Abdul Salam Aslam Mukhiya has been shot dead. I pray to Allah to give patience to his family. Last year in December, our Siwan District President Arif Jamal was shot dead. @NitishKumar Save your chair. If you get time from the sports competition, do some work also? Why are only our leaders the target? Will their families get justice?,” Owaisi said in a tweet.
