The All India Muslim Jamaat (AIMJ) has strongly criticised the upcoming Hindi film The Kerala Story 2, alleging that it spreads “fake narratives” and damages Hindu-Muslim brotherhood.
AIMJ President Maulana Shahabuddin Razvi Bareilvi said the film is part of a growing trend where filmmakers create controversial content to attract attention and earn profits.
“The Kerala Story 2 is a story based on fake narratives,” Razvi told ANI. “Nowadays, some film directors are trying to earn money in any way possible. These films are increasing communal tension and destroying Hindu-Muslim brotherhood. All this is being done as part of a planned effort to defame Muslims.”
He warned that such films could disturb social harmony and deepen mistrust between communities.
Kerala High Court Issues Notice to Makers
The controversy has also reached the courts. The Kerala High Court has issued a notice to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) and the makers of the film after a petition sought cancellation of its censor certificate.
The petition was filed by Sreedev Namboothiri from Kannur district. He argued that the sequel contains “malicious and stereotypical projections scandalising an entire state without any basis.”
According to the plea, although the trailer shows that the story revolves around women from different states and is largely set in northern India, the title and presentation attempt to portray Kerala negatively.

“The name is an intentional attempt to impute a reality to what is more or less a speculative fear of the writer or director,” the petition stated. It added that while freedom of expression must be respected, it should not falsely attribute fears or allegations to an entire state.
The court has directed the CBFC and the film’s production house to file their responses. The next hearing is scheduled for February 24.
Film Faces Political Criticism
The film, directed by Kamakhya Narayan Singh and produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah, deals with cases of alleged forced religious conversion. Its teaser has received mixed reactions, with some viewers calling it exaggerated while others say it reflects reality.
The controversy has drawn political responses as well. Pinarayi Vijayan and Congress MP Shashi Tharoor have criticised the film, raising concerns about its impact on communal harmony.
The sequel follows The Kerala Story, which had sparked intense debate but performed strongly at the box office.
Release Date Amid Legal Battle
Despite the growing controversy and court proceedings, The Kerala Story 2 is scheduled to release in theatres on February 27.
