The All India Muslim Personal Law Board has issued a strong condemnation of the joint military offensive launched by the United States and Israel against Iran, calling it open aggression against a sovereign nation and urging the United Nations and the international community to intervene immediately to stop the fighting before it escalates beyond control.
Negotiations Were a Pretext, Says Board Spokesperson
In a press statement, Board spokesperson Dr. S. Q. R. Ilyas said the attack came at a moment when diplomatic progress had been underway. He pointed out that according to Oman’s Foreign Minister Badr Al-Busaidi, who was serving as a mediator between Tehran and Washington, Iran had agreed to almost all of the conditions put forward by the United States regarding its nuclear programme. Despite this, the US abruptly announced the end of negotiations and immediately launched a joint attack with Israel.
Dr. Ilyas said this sequence of events made it clear that the negotiations were never a genuine diplomatic effort but were used as a cover to buy time before a military strike was carried out.
Killing of Khamenei Called a Blatant Violation of International Law
The Board expressed deep grief over the death of Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei, with Dr. Ilyas describing it as a significant loss for the Muslim world. He said that targeting the central leadership of a sovereign country during wartime and openly speaking of regime change constitutes a direct violation of international law and the Charter of the United Nations.
Risk of Wider Global Conflict Is Real, Board Warns
Dr. Ilyas cautioned that the war had already pushed the entire Middle East into deep instability. He noted that while several European countries are backing the United States, Russia and China have aligned themselves with Iran. If immediate diplomatic intervention does not take place, he warned, the conflict has the potential to grow into a wider global war that would devastate the international economy and place the heaviest burden on developing and weaker nations.
India’s Role Questioned; Absence of Condolence Message Criticised
The Board also raised pointed concerns about India’s response to the crisis. Dr. Ilyas expressed regret that India had not stepped forward to play a balanced and credible mediatory role at such a critical moment, saying the current approach had damaged the credibility of the country’s foreign policy in the eyes of the world.
He also said it was deeply concerning that no official condolence message was issued by the Indian government on the death of Ayatollah Khamenei, calling the omission a departure from India’s moral and diplomatic traditions.
Board Appeals for Urgent International Action
The All India Muslim Personal Law Board concluded its statement with a direct appeal to India’s leadership, the United Nations and the global community to take immediate, serious and practical steps to end the war. “This fire will not remain confined to one region, and no country will remain untouched by its consequences,” Dr. Ilyas said, urging all parties to act before the window for diplomatic resolution closes entirely.
