The Ajmer Dargah is at the center of a legal dispute, with the Hindu Sena claiming it was originally a Shiva temple and demanding an Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) investigation to establish its history. The court is set to decide on November 27 whether the case is maintainable and if the survey request will be approved.

Vishnu Gupta, the national president of the Hindu Sena, has filed a petition stating that the land where the Dargah stands once housed a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, referred to as the Sankat Mochan Mahadev Temple. He argues that the Dargah Committee’s occupation of the site is illegal and seeks its removal. Gupta has also requested that Hindu devotees be allowed to worship at the location.

Speaking about the petition, Gupta said, “The historical truth must come to light. We have evidence, including the book Har Vilas Sharada published in 1910, which claims that a Hindu temple existed at this site before the Dargah. An ASI survey is essential to confirm this.”

The petition references historical documents and the Prakash text as evidence supporting the claim that a temple predated the Dargah. If the court approves the ASI survey, the Ajmer Dargah could undergo an inspection similar to that of the Shahi Masjid in other recent disputes.

“The Hindu community deserves its right to worship here,” Gupta added. “We are hopeful that the court will consider our demands and order a survey to clarify the historical reality of this sacred site.”
