The All India Muslim Women’s Association (AIMWA) organized a women’s convention in Nagpur, gathering distinguished women from across the country. The event focused on education, leadership, and social reform, aiming to empower Muslim women and promote Islamic values.
Dr. Asma Zehra, President of AIMWA, delivered the keynote address, highlighting key issues affecting Muslim women. She said, “We must dedicate ourselves to acts of goodness and righteousness. As Muslim women, we should take pride in our identity and work towards positive change. Issues like the hijab controversy in Karnataka, challenges to Muslim personal law, child marriage in Assam, and the protection of women, such as cases like Asifa and Bilkis Bano, need our attention. These issues are tied to the future of our children and the Muslim community. We must find solutions based on Islamic teachings.”
Ms. Neelam Ghazala, Vice President of AIMWA, highlighted the importance of empowering women. “Women make up 50% of the Muslim community. Empowering them is crucial. We must focus on both religious and worldly education. Our past shows the powerful contributions of women, and we must continue to strengthen women educationally, economically, socially, and psychologically,” she said. She urged women to step forward with the fear of Allah and take action for the betterment of the community.
Ms. Waheeda Syed, Convener of the Teachers Empowerment Programme, spoke about the challenges faced by the Muslim community. “The community faces hatred, discrimination, and injustice. Ignorance, illiteracy, and poverty are ongoing issues. Educated women can play a key role in addressing these challenges and creating opportunities,” she noted.
The convention featured various prominent speakers, including educationists and social reformers like Ms. Tanum Shaikh, Dr. Tayyiba Ansari, Dr. Shabnam, and Ms. Uzma Muhammad. They shared their views on the need for women’s empowerment and social change.
Ms. Yasmeen Anbar, a special guest and Hadith and Tafseer teacher, also shared her thoughts, stressing the importance of education in uplifting the community.
The event included a session on the AIMWA’s 12-point policy and programme, outlined by Secretary Ms. Huda Rawal. She emphasized, “Our mission is to empower women through education, training, social reform, and skill development. I urge all women to join AIMWA and contribute to the betterment of the community.”
In her closing remarks, Ms. Uzma Parikh, General Secretary of AIMWA, said, “This convention has successfully raised awareness among women and strengthened their role in society and education.”
