Alleged BJP IT Cell Members Arrested in IIT-BHU Rape Case

The Indian Institute of Technology-Banaras Hindu University (IIT-BHU) on-campus molestation incident where a female student of the university was molested in the university by three miscreants finally reached a breakthrough when the accused men got arrested on December 30th. Varanasi Police have arrested the men, according to various local media reports.

The incident happened during the early hours of 1st November (Wednesday). The victim (a B.Tech student) was on the university campus with a male student when three unidentified men on a motorcycle stopped the duo, separated the female, and took her to a secluded place. They forcibly kissed and stripped the student, took photos and made videos of the crime and fled the scene.

The very next day (Thursday), at least 2,000 students boycotted class and protested. Demands for arresting the men, resignation of the director and upgrading campus security were raised.

The men have been caught after 60 days of the incident.

The arrested individuals are identified as Saksham Patel, Kunal Pandey and Abhishek Chauhan. The police have also recovered the motorcycle used in the crime.

Upon finding out the names of the accused, it was also found that Saksham and Kunal are officials of BJP’s IT Varanasi cell, according to several media reports and social media posts that have gone viral on Twitter. Kunal Pandey holds the position of metropolitan coordinator in the BJP IT cell in Varanasi, while Saksham Patel serves as the Varanasi metropolitan co-convenor in the IT cell.

It was a week after the incident when the victim, in her fresh statement, alleged that she was also gang-raped by the three men, wherein an IPC section of gangrape was added in the FIR.
