In Shivamogga district, Karnataka, Dalit students were reportedly made to clean school toilets, despite Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s warnings.

The incident occurred at Guddada Neralakere village, and a video of students cleaning toilets went viral on social media.

The Dalit Sangharsha Samithi (DSS) filed a complaint with Assistant Commissioner Satyanarayana, alleging that the headmaster, Shankarappa, and other teachers forced the children to clean toilets.

Parents and activists are demanding action against the accused teachers. This comes after a similar incident on December 23, where the headmistress of a government school in Bengaluru was arrested for allegedly making children clean toilets. Another incident involved schoolchildren being asked to clean a septic tank in Kolar district.

In response to the recent incident, the DSS stated, “It is disheartening to see such incidents continuing despite warnings. Strict action should be taken against the responsible authorities.” The community is seeking justice for the students involved.

The incident has become a major embarrassment for the Congress government, especially as the Minister for Education, Madhu Bangarappa, is from the same district.
