Army Havildar Dies of Injuries in J&K’s Kishtwar Encounter

A soldier injured during an ongoing encounter with terrorists in the Singpura area of Kishtwar district in Jammu and Kashmir succumbed to his injuries on Monday, the Army said.

Havildar Gajendra Singh of the Special Forces was wounded during a counter terrorism operation and later laid down his life. The Army’s White Knight Corps paid tribute to the soldier in a post on X, saying he made the supreme sacrifice while carrying out his duty with courage and dedication.

“The GOC White Knight Corps and all ranks pay solemn tribute to Havildar Gajendra Singh of the Special Forces, who made the supreme sacrifice while gallantly executing a counter terrorism operation in the Singpura area during the ongoing Operation TRASHI I on the night of January 19, 2026. We honour his indomitable courage, valour and selfless devotion to duty and stand firmly with the bereaved family in this hour of profound grief,” the post said.

The encounter began after joint security forces launched a cordon and search operation in the Singpura area based on intelligence inputs about the presence of three Jaish-e-Mohammad militants. During the initial exchange of fire, seven Army personnel were injured.

Officials said that three of the injured soldiers were airlifted to an Army hospital for specialised treatment. Security forces have continued the operation in the area as the encounter remains underway.
