Senior Congress leader Salman Khurshid has said that removing Article 370 from the Constitution helped end the perception that Jammu and Kashmir was separate from the rest of India.

While speaking to a delegation during his visit to Indonesia as part of India’s “Operation Sindoor” foreign outreach, Khurshid said, “The idea that Kashmir was somehow separate was a major problem. That problem has finally been put to an end.”

Article 370 earlier gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir. It was abrogated by the Indian government in August 2019.Khurshid said that the change has led to more voter participation and development in the region.

“After the abrogation, we saw 65 percent voter turnout in elections. That led to the formation of an elected government, which is a positive step,” he said.

He warned against trying to undo these developments. “There should be no efforts to reverse the progress that has been made,” he added, highlighting what he called the “prosperity” that followed the move.

Khurshid’s remarks are notable as they come from a senior Congress leader, a party that had earlier opposed the way Article 370 was removed.
