Three women from Arunachal Pradesh have accused their neighbours of racial abuse, humiliation and intimidation after a dispute over repair work at their rented flat in south Delhi’s Malviya Nagar. The incident took place on February 20, and a video of the altercation has since gone viral on social media.
According to the police, an FIR has been registered at Malviya Nagar police station against Harsh Singh and his wife Ruby Jain under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Dispute Began Over AC Installation
The women said they had called an electrician around 3.30 pm to install an air conditioner in their fourth-floor flat. During the drilling work, dust and debris reportedly fell into the apartment below.
A senior police officer said the falling debris led to objections from the neighbours. What started as a disagreement soon turned into a heated argument.
The women alleged that the couple began hurling abuses and making derogatory remarks targeting their ethnicity and the northeastern community.
“Have You Opened a Massage Parlour?”
In the viral video, the accused woman is heard making offensive comments. “Are you sitting here to do business? Have you opened a massage parlour at home?” she allegedly says. She is also heard calling the women “momo” and accusing them of working in a massage parlour for money.
The accused couple allegedly used words like “gutter chaap” and made remarks such as “go and sell momos” and “northeast people are shit.”
One of the women is seen responding in the video. “Everyone heard what you said about my image. You made false allegations that I drink alcohol. Go check my room if you find any bottles there,” she says.
At another point, the accused woman is heard saying, “Teri aukaat nahi hai. Custom officer ka beta hai woh. Politician ka beta hai,” while claiming social and economic superiority.
A police officer present at the spot is seen in the video trying to calm both sides.
FIR Under Non-Bailable Section
Police said the FIR has been registered under Section 79 for insulting the modesty of a woman, Section 351(2) for criminal intimidation, Section 3(5) for common intention and Section 196 for promoting enmity on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence or language under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Section 196 is a cognizable and non-bailable offence. However, no arrests have been made so far.
“No physical injuries were reported. However, the complainants have alleged mental harassment and humiliation,” a senior officer said.
Women Demand Apology, Express Safety Concerns
The women have demanded a formal apology, saying the remarks were not just personal attacks but an insult to the dignity of the entire northeastern community.
Reports said the situation worsened after a building broker allegedly informed the women that they would have to vacate the flat within two months due to planned repair work.
