Newly appointed Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta is facing backlash after her past tweets and videos resurfaced online. The viral content includes derogatory remarks against former CM Arvind Kejriwal and other political leaders, as well as controversial statements targeting Muslims.
One widely shared video shows Gupta using abusive language toward university students. Another clip from 2023 captures her vandalizing the podium and microphone during the election of MCD’s standing committee members. The incident occurred when BJP alleged that some councillors were secretly photographing ballots during voting.
Additionally, an old video of Gupta expressing her views on Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has also gained traction on social media, drawing further scrutiny.
Reacting to the viral posts, Congress leader Supriya Shrinate condemned the BJP, saying, “Those outraged by the Delhi CM’s old tweets need a reality check. The BJP thrives on hate speech and divisive rhetoric. Have you ever wondered why government ministers resort to trolling? Because it is the easiest path to political success.”
Trinamool Congress MP Sagarika Ghose also weighed in, compared Gupta with past leaders. “The new Delhi CM’s history of abusive language and aggression is troubling. This is a far cry from the leadership of Sheila Dikshit and Sushma Swaraj. Today’s BJP has normalized vitriol and hostility,” she posted.
As Gupta assumes office, the resurfacing of her past remarks has intensified political debate, raising questions about the tone and conduct of public leadership in the capital.
