Ayush doctor Nusrat Parveen, who was at the centre of a controversy last month after Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar removed her naqab during an appointment letter distribution programme, joined office on Wednesday, officials confirmed.

Nusrat Parveen reported for duty on the last date of joining at the Patna Civil Surgeon Office. Government Tibbi College and Hospital principal Mahfoozur Rahman told PTI that she joined within the extended deadline and will be given a posting by the civil surgeon’s office.

“Today was the last date of joining and Nusrat reported for duty at the Patna Civil Surgeon Office. She will be posted suitably by the civil surgeon’s office,” Rahman said.

He added that the deadline for joining had been extended twice, first till December 31 and later till January 7. Nusrat Parveen is an alumnus of Government Tibbi College, where Rahman is the principal.

Earlier, reports had claimed that Nusrat was unwilling to join duty due to resentment following the controversy. However, the college administration denied these claims. Rahman said she continued to visit the college and remained in touch with faculty members. “She comes to college. I talk to her occasionally, though not on the issue of joining,” he said.

Last month, when she missed the original joining deadline, the principal had said that her family wanted to avoid media attention and that she would decide later whether to take up the post.
