The Bharatiya Janata Party has released its manifesto for the upcoming West Bengal Assembly Elections 2026, titled “Sankalp Patra,” outlining its governance roadmap for the state. The document was unveiled in Kolkata by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who said it is aimed at addressing what the party describes as public dissatisfaction and developmental stagnation in West Bengal. He positioned the manifesto as part of a broader national vision linked to “Viksit Bharat.”
Push for Uniform Civil Code and Governance Reforms
A major political promise in the document is the implementation of a Uniform Civil Code within six months. Alongside this, the BJP has proposed expanding governance and welfare frameworks, including integrating state health schemes with Ayushman Bharat to widen coverage in West Bengal.
Security and “Infiltration” Narrative
On security, the BJP has promised what it calls a zero-tolerance approach to infiltration and stronger border management policies. These themes form a central part of the party’s political messaging in the state.
Welfare Promises for Women, Youth and Farmers
The manifesto proposes monthly financial assistance of ₹3,000 for women and a similar ₹3,000 support for unemployed youth. It also promises a top-up under the PM Kisan scheme for farmers in the state and additional support for students preparing for competitive examinations. The party has also committed to implementing the Seventh Pay Commission within 45 days if elected.
Employment and Reservation Commitments
The manifesto includes a promise of 33 per cent reservation for women in government jobs, including in the police force. It also outlines financial assistance for job seekers preparing for competitive exams, signalling a focus on employment generation and recruitment reforms.
Cultural and Heritage Projects
The manifesto also includes cultural initiatives such as the construction of a Vande Mataram museum, a cultural centre in the name of Rabindranath Tagore, and the development of a spiritual circuit linked to Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. These projects are presented as efforts to highlight Bengal’s cultural identity.
Political Attack on TMC
The BJP used the manifesto launch to sharply criticise the ruling All India Trinamool Congress, accusing it of misgovernance and corruption. Amit Shah said the state has witnessed “disillusionment” under the current government and argued that voters are now seeking change.
Election Timeline
The West Bengal Assembly Elections 2026 will be held in two phases on April 23 and April 29, with counting scheduled for May 4. The contest is expected to be primarily between the BJP and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
