The Jammu and Kashmir unit of the BJP has welcomed the administration’s decision to take control of more than 200 schools linked to the banned Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI), calling it an important step to protect the future of students.
BJP vice president and former education minister Priya Sethi said the JeI and its affiliate, the Falah-e-Aam Trust (FAT), had “misused the sacred platform of education to spread radicalisation instead of knowledge.”
“By seizing control of these schools, the government has broken this vicious cycle and secured the academic future of thousands of innocent students,” she said in a statement, as reported by Daily Excelsior.
Sethi pointed out that the Ministry of Home Affairs had already banned JeI for its alleged anti-national activities. She said the takeover of 215 FAT-run schools was a strong step to stop the “dangerous misuse of education.”
Accusing JeI and its affiliates of promoting separatism, Sethi said, “These institutions were hubs of indoctrination, trying to create generations detached from the mainstream of progress.”
She praised the Narendra Modi government for ensuring that education in Jammu and Kashmir remains free from “radical influence” and assured parents that the new system would improve standards.
“Our children will now study in an environment of positivity and patriotism, without the shadow of radical ideology,” she said.
