A Muslim Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and his two sons were allegedly attacked by supporters of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) in West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district, with police registering a case and arresting one accused.
The incident reportedly took place on Wednesday night in Khordah Chandpur under Hadwa Panchayat. According to the complaint, the attackers vandalised the grocery shop of local BJP booth committee president Alauddin Mulla before assaulting him and his two sons.
Dispute Allegedly Linked to Political Defections
According to the complaint filed with Hadwa Police Station, the violence erupted after some TMC workers allegedly wanted to join the BJP. Alauddin Mulla claimed he refused to facilitate their entry into the party or recommend them to the BJP leadership, leading to tensions.
He alleged that an armed group entered his grocery shop, damaged furniture and goods, looted cash, and then attacked him and his sons.
His sons, 23-year-old Fakiruddin Mulla and 16-year-old Afridi Mulla, reportedly sustained serious head injuries in the assault. They were initially taken to Hadwa Rural Hospital before being referred to a medical facility in Basirhat, where they are undergoing treatment.
Police Register FIR, One Arrested
Based on Alauddin Mulla’s complaint, Hadwa Police registered a case against 23 people in connection with the incident.
Police have arrested one accused, while efforts are underway to trace the remaining suspects.
Officials have not yet disclosed the identities of those arrested or commented on the allegations of political rivalry.
BJP Leader Alleges He Was Targeted
Speaking about the incident, Alauddin Mulla alleged that the attackers intended to kill his sons.
“My only fault is that despite being a Muslim, I have been associated with the Bharatiya Janata Party since 2021 and have ignored continuous threats,” he said.
He further claimed that the people who attacked him were now trying to join the BJP, which he refused to support.
BJP Blames TMC for Attack
Reacting to the incident, BJP leader Sushen Baidya alleged that Alauddin Mulla had been targeted for expanding the party’s presence in an area considered a Trinamool Congress stronghold.
According to Baidya, the BJP leader had been facing harassment for a long time, and the latest attack was a result of ongoing political hostility.
The Trinamool Congress had not issued an official response to the allegations at the time of publication. Police said the investigation is ongoing.
