A Christian church in Mayur Vihar, Delhi, was attacked on Sunday afternoon. The incident took place at St. Mary’s Syro-Malabar Catholic Church, where the statue of Mother Mary was vandalized.
An unidentified man on a bike threw a brick at the glass enclosure housing the statue, damaging it, according to a report by Media One.
The attack occurred around 12:30 PM, breaking the glass surrounding the statue. Following the incident, church officials moved the statue to a safer place. However, no official complaint has been filed with the police yet.
Local shopkeepers near the church stated that the attacker was not wearing a helmet but could not identify him. The police have accessed CCTV footage of the incident and have started an investigation. They are also gathering information from residents in nearby houses and shops.
Mayur Vihar, where the church is located, has a significant Malayali Christian population. The attack has raised concerns among the community, especially as similar attacks on churches have been reported in different parts of North India in the past.
