Tension was reported in several districts of Uttar Pradesh including Kasganj, Agra, Lakhimpur Kheri and Lucknow during celebrations marking the birth anniversary of B. R. Ambedkar.
Authorities said incidents ranging from stone pelting to clashes between groups disrupted processions and gatherings in different parts of the state. Police intervened in all cases and said the situation is now under control.
Kasganj Sees Stone Pelting During Procession
In Kasganj district, tension erupted in Chahka Gunar village under Sahawar police station when a Shobha Yatra was passing through the area. According to officials, some individuals allegedly began throwing stones at the procession, leading to chaos.
Locals said the stone pelting continued for nearly an hour, while some people blocked roads using tractor trolleys. A police constable was injured in the incident.
District Magistrate Pranay Singh said around 10 people, including a woman, have been detained. “Those involved are being identified through video footage, and strict action will be taken,” he said.
Superintendent of Police Om Prakash Singh added that multiple processions were held across the district with security arrangements, and the incident appeared to be an attempt to disrupt the event. The procession later resumed under police supervision.
Agra Incident Sparks Brief Tension
In Agra, a group of youths climbed a structure at Parshuram Chowk in the Sikandra area and hoisted a flag, triggering objections from locals. Videos of the act went viral, drawing crowds and increasing tension.
Police said the situation was quickly brought under control after intervention. “Some miscreants climbed the structure and put up a flag. They are being identified and action will be taken,” an अधिकारी said.
Clash Over Ambedkar Statue in Lakhimpur Kheri
In Lakhimpur Kheri, violence broke out in Bankeganj after a dispute over installing a statue of Dr Ambedkar on government land. Officials said the disagreement between two groups escalated into stone pelting and arson.
Police used mild force to disperse the crowd and restore order. Senior officials, including District Magistrate Durga Shakti Nagpal and SSP Khyati Garg, reached the spot to monitor the situation.
Additional SP Amit Kumar Rai said the situation is now normal and under control.
Firing Incident in Lucknow, Several Arrested
In Lucknow’s Banthara area, two groups clashed over garlanding a statue of Ambedkar in a village. Police said firing also took place, though no injuries were reported.
Seven people have been arrested and FIRs registered based on complaints from both sides.
Heavy Deployment, Situation Under Control
Police have deployed additional forces in all affected areas and appealed for calm. Officials said strict action will be taken against those involved in disturbing peace.
Despite the incidents, Ambedkar Jayanti events continued across the state under security, with authorities closely monitoring sensitive areas to prevent further unrest.
