A head constable of the Government Railway Police (GRP) in Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly region, Mohammad Jamshed, has resigned from service, saying he wants to enter politics to work against rising communal tensions in society.

His resignation letter and a video statement have gone viral on social media, triggering widespread discussion within police and administrative circles. The letter was reportedly sent to Bareilly Senior Superintendent of Police Anurag Arya.

‘Police Uniform Gave Me Respect,’ Says Jamshed

In his resignation letter, Jamshed said he had served the police department with honesty and respect.

“I have always tried to perform my duties with full sincerity and discipline. The police uniform gave me respect in society, and I have no complaint against the department,” he wrote.

He added that he was emotionally disturbed by what he described as growing mistrust and division among communities.

“At present, communalism is increasing in the country and the state, due to which people are becoming enemies of each other,” the letter stated.

Wants to Enter Politics to Promote Harmony

Jamshed said he now wants to enter public life and politics to work toward restoring social harmony and unity.

“I want to enter politics and work to reduce communal tensions. That is why I am resigning from the Uttar Pradesh Police,” he wrote in his application.

In his video statement, he said, “We can fight external enemies, but not each other. Society needs more trust, peace and brotherhood.”

He also said that political participation would give him a better platform to promote secularism and unity.

Department Says Resignation Not Yet Received

Officials have said that the resignation is still under process and has not yet formally reached the office of the Senior Superintendent of Police.

According to police sources, Jamshed is currently attached to the GRP unit after previously serving in Bareilly district. Authorities have not confirmed whether his resignation will be accepted.

Bareilly SSP Anurag Arya stated that the department had not officially received the resignation at the time of reporting.

Claims of Disciplinary Action

Jamshed also mentioned in his statement that he had been sent to the police lines on disciplinary grounds, though details of the allegations have not been officially clarified.

He said despite facing internal issues, he had always maintained discipline and respect for the force.
