Three weeks after Congress Dalit leader Rajesh alias Raju Solanki threatened to convert to Islam if the state government failed to take action against Gondal BJP MLA Geetaba Jadeja and her husband over the alleged assault on his son, Raju and four of his family members have been booked under the Gujarat Control of Terrorism and Organised Crime (GUJCTOC) Act. The police have accused them of running a crime syndicate since 2014.
Inspector JJ Patel, in-charge of the Local Crime Branch (LCB) of Junagadh district, filed a complaint that led to the FIR being registered under Sections 3(1)(2), 3(4) of the GUJCTOC Act, which pertain to organised crime, as well as the Arms Act. The FIR was registered at A Division Police Station in Junagadh on Saturday morning.
The accused named in the FIR are Raju Solanki, his brother Jayesh, his sons Sanjay and Dev, and his nephew Yogesh Bagda.
Raju Solanki had previously made headlines by threatening to convert to Islam if the government did not act against BJP MLA Geetaba Jadeja and her husband, whom he accused of assaulting his son. This incident has now been followed by serious charges against him and his family members.
Inspector Patel’s complaint alleges that Solanki and his relatives have been involved in organised crime for nearly a decade.
