A Dalit family in Lucknow has alleged that a group of men attacked them, abused them with casteist slurs, and set fire to their cattle shed in the Malihabad area of the city. Police have now registered a case under the SC/ST Act and started an investigation.
The incident was reported from Tilsuwa village under the Malihabad police station limits. According to the complaint filed by Santosh Kumar, the attack took place on March 15, 2026.
Santosh told police that four to five men carrying sticks arrived at his house late at night. He identified two of the accused as Balendra Yadav alias Nitin and Abhay Yadav, while three others are yet to be identified.
According to the complaint, the accused stood outside the house and allegedly hurled caste-based abuses at the family. They also banged on the door and threatened to kill the family if they came outside.
“Out of fear, we did not open the door,” Santosh said in his complaint to police.
The victim alleged that after the family refused to come out, the attackers beat a pregnant cow and two buffaloes tied near the house before setting the cattle shed on fire.
Soon after the incident, the family informed the police through Dial 112. Police and fire brigade teams reached the village, but the accused had already fled from the spot by then.
Santosh further alleged that the accused threatened the family with dire consequences if they approached the police or filed a complaint.
The victim also claimed that he had earlier submitted a written complaint to the local police station, but no action was taken at that time. After nearly two months, a case was finally registered following directions from senior police officials.
Sujeet Kumar Dubey, ACP of Malihabad, confirmed that a case has been filed based on Santosh Kumar’s complaint.
“An FIR has been registered under relevant sections, including provisions of the SC/ST Act, and the matter is being investigated,” the officer said.
Police said further action will be taken after recording statements and gathering evidence related to the incident.
