A Dalit groom was attacked with stones by some villagers in Mokhra village, Tikamgarh district, on Friday. The groom, Jitendra Ahirwar, was riding a horse during his wedding procession when the incident happened.

A video of the attack has gone viral, sparking public outrage. In the video, Jitendra can be seen targeted during the traditional “Rach” ceremony, where the groom rides through the village before reaching the wedding venue.

According to the police, a woman named Bhan Kunwar Raja Parmar allegedly stopped Jitendra and started abusing him. She questioned how a Dalit could dare to ride a horse through their neighborhood. She then threw stones at him and was joined by two others, Surya Pal and Drigpal.

Four people were injured in the attack.

Jitendra shared his painful experience, saying, “It was my wedding day, a moment of happiness for me and my family. We were passing through a neighborhood when they stopped us, threw stones, and told me to get down from the horse and walk barefoot. They insulted us, saying we shouldn’t even wear slippers near their homes.”

Jitendra and his family filed a complaint at Badagaon Dhasan police station. An FIR has been registered against Bhan Kunwar Raja Parmar, Surya Pal, and Drigpal for assault and caste discrimination.

Badagaon Dhasan police station in-charge Narendra Verma said, “The woman has been taken into custody, and we are actively searching for the other two accused.”
