Dalit Woman Assaulted for Using Tubewell in UP’s Banda, Accused Father and Son Booked for Caste-Based Slurs

A farmer and his son have been booked for allegedly assaulting a Dalit woman and using casteist slurs against her in Banda district, Uttar Pradesh, the police said. The incident occurred when the 36-year-old woman, who works as an agricultural labourer, attempted to collect water from the family’s tubewell.

An FIR has been registered under Sections 115 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) of the Indian Penal Code. Additionally, the police have invoked the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act against the accused.

Moni Nishad, Station House Officer at Jaspura police station, confirmed that no arrests have been made yet and that an investigation is ongoing. The accused have been identified as Rajendra Singh and his son Jitendra Pratap Singh, both residents of Sikauhula village.
