An inhumane and deeply humiliating incident involving a Dalit youth has come to light in Madhya Pradesh’s Morena district, where he was allegedly assaulted and forced to perform obscene acts over a money dispute. The incident took place in the Ambah area and has sparked outrage after videos of the abuse went viral on social media.
According to the police, the victim was living on rent in the same street as the accused in Ambah tehsil, around 30 kilometres from the Morena district headquarters. The accused has been identified as Pui alias Dharmendra Tomar, a resident of Retpura in the old Ambah police station area. Police said he is a habitual offender with several past cases registered against him.
Officials said the accused and his associates allegedly called the Dalit youth to their house over the non-repayment of a loan. There, he was assaulted, abused and subjected to extreme humiliation. Two videos related to the incident later surfaced online, prompting the police to take immediate cognisance of the matter.
In one of the videos, the victim can be seen being forced to squat in a murga position and made to slap himself. In another video, he is allegedly taken behind the Ambah Janpad office and forced to perform obscene acts, including inappropriately touching his private parts. Police said the videos were recorded by one of the accused’s associates.
Superintendent of Police Sameer Saurabh termed the incident shameful and said strict action was being taken. “The videos are extremely disturbing. We have registered a case, arrested the main accused and further investigation is underway,” he told reporters.
He added that after the incident and the circulation of the videos, the victim’s family left their rented house out of fear and is currently untraceable. “The family shifted earlier due to harassment and after the videos went viral, they fled again fearing further trouble,” the SP said.
Sub Divisional Officer of Police Ravi Bhaduria said the police acted swiftly after the videos surfaced. “We took cognisance of the viral videos, registered a case and arrested the prime accused. Efforts are being made to trace the victim and his family and ensure their safety,” he said.
