The Delhi High Court has granted bail to Naim, also known as Mohammad Naeem, in a case being investigated by the National Investigation Agency (NIA), after he spent more than seven years in custody.
A Bench of Justice Navin Chawla and Justice Ravinder Dudeja passed the order on September 30, 2026, according to the Association for Protection of Civil Rights (APCR), which represented Naim in the case.
Naim was arrested around seven years ago from Radhna village in the Kithore area of Meerut in a case related to alleged terrorism. At the time, authorities had claimed that the case involved a major terror network.
Court Notes Slow Progress of Trial
While granting bail, the Delhi High Court noted that only 42 of the 112 witnesses in the case had been examined.
The court observed that there was “no possibility of the trial concluding any time soon”.
The court also clarified that its order granting bail did not amount to a finding on the merits of the case.
Naim was represented by advocates Rajat Kumar and Priya Vats on behalf of APCR.
Arrest Was Linked to Alleged Terror Network
Naim’s arrest had received attention at the time, with authorities making allegations about a suspected terror network. According to APCR, claims made during the arrest included descriptions of tubewell pipes as rocket launchers and other material being presented as evidence of terror-related activity.
APCR had been following Naim’s case throughout his prolonged custody.
The organisation said Naim was released four days before meeting its representatives.
“Naim is now free. He was released four days ago and came to meet us today,” APCR said.
The case is titled Naim @ Mohd. Naeem v. National Investigation Agency.
