Delhi High Court Grants Bail to SDPI President MK Faizy in Money Laundering Case

Delhi HC Grants Bail to SDPI President MK Faizy

The Delhi High Court on Monday granted bail to Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) president Moideen Kutty K, popularly known as MK Faizy, in a money laundering case registered by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).

Justice Neena Bansal Krishna passed the order allowing Faizy’s bail plea. Detailed conditions of the bail are awaited.

Faizy was arrested by the ED in March 2025 at Indira Gandhi International Airport under provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The arrest was made in connection with an ongoing money laundering investigation linked to the banned Popular Front of India (PFI).

The ED has alleged that the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), founded in 2009 and headquartered in Delhi, functions as the political front of the PFI and relies on it for funding and operational support. According to the agency, proceeds of crime amounting to several crores were allegedly routed from PFI to SDPI through undisclosed channels.

The central government had banned the PFI in September 2022 under anti-terror laws, citing alleged unlawful activities.

ED officials had earlier claimed that Faizy evaded multiple summons during the course of the investigation, which led to the issuance of a non-bailable warrant prior to his arrest.

Senior Advocate Siddharth Agarwal, along with advocates Rajat Bhardwaj, Ankita M Bhardwaj, Dushyant Chaudhary, Mohd Fiyaz, Vishwajeet Singh and Siddharth Singh, appeared for Faizy during the bail proceedings.

Faizy was re-elected as SDPI’s national president during the party’s sixth National Representative Council meeting while he was in judicial custody following his arrest in March 2025.
