A suspected kidnapping case involving a 10-month-old girl in Delhi’s Mukundpur area took a shocking turn after police alleged that the child’s father killed her and tried to stage her disappearance.
Police have detained the accused, identified as Deepak, a resident of Bhalaswa Dairy in northwest Delhi, and are questioning him in connection with the death of his daughter, Nishika.
According to police sources, the man allegedly confessed during interrogation after investigators found inconsistencies in his statements.
Father Allegedly Claimed Child Was Kidnapped
The case first came to light on Sunday morning when the family informed police that the infant had gone missing from their home.
Deepak allegedly told police that he had stepped out to buy milk around 5 am and left the house gate open. When he returned, he claimed his 10-month-old daughter, who had been sleeping beside her mother, was missing.
The family initially suspected kidnapping and informed police, triggering a search operation in the locality.
The child’s grandfather told reporters that neighbours also joined the search after the baby could not be found.
Police Suspected Father’s Version During Probe
During the investigation, police reviewed CCTV footage from nearby areas but reportedly found no evidence supporting the kidnapping claim.
Investigators also recovered the nipple of the infant’s milk bottle outside the house, which raised further suspicion.
According to police sources, officers questioned the father separately and became suspicious of his account. During sustained interrogation, he allegedly admitted to killing the child and dumping her body inside a septic tank.
Police later recovered the infant from the tank and rushed her to hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
Allegations of Drugging Wife and Elder Daughter
Police sources said the accused allegedly mixed an intoxicating substance in food or drinks given to his wife and elder daughter before the incident, leaving them unconscious.
The child’s mother, Surya (also referred to as Sonia in some reports), told police that she and her elder daughter were asleep and later found themselves unconscious.
“When my husband came back, he woke me up by calling my name. Later we realised our younger daughter was missing,” she reportedly told police.
Motive Linked to Preference for Son, Say Police
According to investigators, the accused allegedly told police that he was unhappy because the child was his second daughter and wanted a son.
Police suspect this may have been the motive behind the killing.
The accused has been detained, and police are also investigating whether any family members had prior knowledge or involvement in the incident.
Second Similar Incident in Delhi Within Days
The incident comes days after another case in Delhi in which a young father was accused of abandoning his infant daughter near a drain in Rohini after allegedly being unhappy over the birth of a girl child.
